Reasons Why I'm in Love with England: #16 Wendy Webster

I was doing an assigned reading for my War and Society in Modern Britain class when I fell in love with good ole Wendy. Halfway through Chapter Two of her book "Englishness and Empire" my heart gave way to her writing, her argument, and after I looked her up online, her face.

She's adorable!

But I thought I'd also share one of my favorite sentences of hers, on English culture and identity on the home front during WWII:

"Narrative-documentary techniques were adopted in many films on the war, and their strong association with realism made them particularly suited to the idea of a sober and responsible nation, offering unsensational narratives characterized by a sense of stoicism and emotional restraint."
